TRENTON — The Edgewood City Schools' community is grieving the loss of another student, the fifth since the school year began.
Jared M. Frey, 15, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Atrium Medical Center. He was a sophomore at Edgewood High School and a member of the Chess Club.
"Jared was a young man who made those around him better," said Principal Bob Buchheim. "His gentle manner made him easy to like. He cared about others and in turn everyone cared for him. We will miss his kind heart.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
Counselors are available at the school for students.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 5, at the Webster Funeral Home in Fairfield. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Vineyard Community Church in Springdale.
Fewer than two weeks ago on Nov. 22, Nathanial Cameron, a 16-year old junior at Edgewood High School, died after he and three friends were struck by a car at the bridge just outside the Trenton city limits on Ohio 73.
Severely injured were Richard Briscoe, 18, a senior, and Aaron Vance, 21, an Edgewood graduate.
Both Briscoe and Vance were discharged from Miami Valley Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday, Dec. 3.
Another graduate, William Mayers, 18, escaped without serious injury.
"In the last four months we have experienced more than our share of tragedies," said Superintendent Larry Knapp. "To all the families, our community and our staff we would like for them to know that our prayers and thoughts continue to be with everyone."
