HAMILTON — Hamilton police are looking for a man who robbed a credit union shortly after it opened today, Dec. 3.
The unknown suspect robbed the Aur Group Credit Union, at 1401 NW Washington Blvd., on the city's West side at approximately 10 a.m.
Students at Hamilton High, Wilson Middle and Freshman schools were not allowed to leave the schools as police searched for the suspect, said school spokeswoman Joni Copas.
The suspect is described as a white male with short dark hair, a goatee and mustache, dressed in gray sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt and wearing a black knitted hat, said Hamilton police spokesman Rich Burkhardt.
The robber went into the credit union shortly after it opened and demanded money, but didn't display a weapon, Burkhardt said. The man then took off across the street and ran behind Karen's Pizza, 1085 Eaton Ave., toward a residential area, Burkhardt said.
One witness reported seeing a man fitting the robber's description standing outside near the credit union before it opened, Burkhardt said.
The Butler County K-9 unit and helicopter are assisting in the search for the suspect, said police spokesman Tom Kilgour.
The schools were not put in a full lockdown mode because the suspect ran away from the schools, but students were kept inside as a precaution, Kilgour said.
