Jack-O-Lantern Junction's 'no-scare environment' open to families

WEST CHESTER TWP. — The scenery at EnterTRAINment Junction will be changing with the season.

In the second week of October, what's now being offered at the world's largest indoor model railroad layout enters is no surprise, really. But that doesn't mean it's not impressive.

While about half of EnterTRAINment Junction, 7379 Squire Court, continues to be dedicated to the 25,000-square-foot Train Experience — the facility's centerpiece — railroad history museum, conference rooms and a children's play area, the other half is dedicated to a seasonally-themed fun house.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day through Nov. 2, EnterTRAINment offers Jack-O-Lantern Junction, a Halloween event for children and their families.

"It's a no-scare environment," said Bill Mefford, the company's public relations manager. "We appeal to the families and the children during the day."

Visitors can walk through various mazes and rooms featuring clowns and other carnival-type offerings, a "wind tunnel," and more. There's also a few stops along the way for trick-or-treating, Mefford assured.

Admission to the daily event is $8.

Thursday through Sunday, though, that family-friendly environment is transformed — appropriately — into a scene more akin to an R-rated movie ... corn syrup and red food coloring, et. al.

Although it only takes about 90 minutes to make the changes — lights, stage smoke, music and 30 monsters — the 9,000-square-foot seasonal area becomes a totally different animal, Mefford said.

Not recommended for children under 12 "or for adults easily scared and just plain chicken!" Mefford said, the haunted house includes two walk-through haunted mazes.

Junction Nightmare is open from 7 p.m. to various hours depending on the night Thursday through Sunday until Nov. 1.

Admission to Junction Nightmare is $15, with a special "Fast-Pass" available for $25, which allows visitors immediate access without waiting in queue lines.
