HAMILTON — This fall, members of the Butler County Historical Society and the community will have many opportunities to connect with history.

Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 24, the Butler County Historical Society will welcome Hamilton native Daniel Preston, editor of the James Monroe Papers and author of the recently published "James Monroe: An Illustrated History." Though Preston is obviously an authority on James Monroe, his program will also make a connection with the city's founding father, Alexander Hamilton.

On Oct. 12, the Historical Society will sponsor a visit to the beautifully kept Henshaw Farm just outside of rural Shandon, Ohio. The event will include a tour of the house built in 1812, adjacent log cabin, and historic grounds. A catered meal will be served.

Those who attend the Henshaw Farm tour will also have the first opportunity to purchase reproductions of the 1855 Map of Butler County. The society's map is one of only three such originals known to exist. The maps will be available for purchase beginning Oct. 15.

On Monday, Oct. 20, the society, in conjunction with Miami Hamilton Downtown, will welcome Cincinnati Reds historian and author Greg Rhodes. The program, scheduled just two days before the start of the 2008 World Series, will focus on the ramifications of the 1919 World Series scandal and Butler County native Kennesaw Mountain Landis.
