Attorney General Marc Dann wasn't getting much love on Monday, May 5, and the biggest body slam came from fellow Democrat Ted Strickland, who told Dann the party would initiate impeachment proceedings if he refused to step aside.

Dann told the governor during the weekend that he wouldn't resign, and he seemed to parrot that in an e-mail to his 1,400 employees. "I am in the office, have rolled up my sleeves and am working on behalf of the people of the state of Ohio," he wrote.

Strickland was joined in his call for Dann's resignation by a host of key Democrats. Virtually every top Republican, including House Speaker Jon Husted, R-Kettering, said the same thing: If Dann doesn't resign, he will be impeached.

Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern said if Dann doesn't resign by Saturday, the party's executive committee will also consider expulsion — essentially kicking him out of the party. "He'll be holding office as an independent, elected as a Democrat," Redfern said.

On Friday, Dann's office released a 57-page internal report that substantiated complaints by two 26-year-old female employees that they were sexually harassed by Anthony Gutierrez, Dann's friend, neighbor and former roommate. Dann also admitted to an affair with his 28-year-old former scheduler, Jessica Utovich, who resigned last week.

Even as Dann tried to hang on, replacement names were surfacing. One scenario the Democrats are considering: Strickland would appoint Kent Markus, the governor's chief legal counsel, as an interim attorney general and then Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray could run for attorney general in November. If Cordray were to lose the race, he would remain as treasurer.

When asked about it Monday, Cordray said, "We don't even have a vacancy at this point."
