In the two weeks since Joe Nuxhall's death, the rally around the Nuxhall family and the Ol' Lefthander's legacy has been overwhelming, said son Kim Nuxhall. Hundreds of cards have come from across the country.

"I would say the majority of cards have had personal notes saying that in some way Dad has touched them," Nuxhall said. "It's still overwhelming."

Extras

Since Nuxhall's Nov. 20 visitation, between $15,000 and $20,000 has been donated to The Joe Nuxhall Hope Project, which encompasses the Reds Hall of Famer and radio announcer's five philanthropic projects, said Fairfield Community Foundation executive director Betsy Hope on Monday.

Nuxhall's scholarship fund started more than 20 years ago. In 2003, the community foundation helped launch the Character Education Fund, which has close to $300,000. Also under the Hope Project is the Reds Rookie Success League of Butler County, the One Way Farm Children's Center gymnasium and the Miracle League Field.

Donations can be mailed to Fairfield Community Foundation, Joe Nuxhall Project Hope Fund, 5350 Pleasant Ave., Fairfield, OH 45014.
