OXFORD — To break down misconceived presumptions about people from different orientations, backgrounds and ethnicities, people need to come together and communicate, according to Miami University officials.
Tonight at MU, 13 sponsors are hoping open dialogue between different individuals will help break down those barriers during Ramadan Break-Fast at 7:30 p.m. in the Hillel building at MU.

MU officials said the free program will educate participants on the holy months of Islam's Ramadan and Judaism's Tishrei — as well as elements of fasting traditions in Christianity.
Organizers of the event said it will be a chance for students, faculty, staff and community members of all religious and cultural backgrounds to break the Ramadan fast while meeting each other, breaking down barriers and building a community of understanding.
"Our desire was to gather various people from the university community and break down barriers and stereotypes and create a community," said Amy Greenbaum, a member of the organizing committee for Ramadan Break-Fast. "I think that sometimes people in our society have preconceived notions about one another. ... This program is a way to break down those notions ... we are all just people."
