Formed in 1803, the year Ohio became a state, the township named itself for the large numbers of deer that stopped at local "deer licks," or salt licks. In those days and earlier, "Deerfield Township was clad in its native wilderness," wrote editors of the 19th-century History of Warren County. "Not an open space could be found which would let the mellowing light of the sun pass to the then undisturbed soil."
The Fairfield Indians hosted the Mason Comets on Friday October 23, 2009. Fairfield came away with the win in the 30-7 battle.
