Garden enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience a variety of scenic displays as Middletown Art Center’s annual Garden Tour returns on June 25-26..

“Guests will have a chance to visit five featured gardens, and the Middletown Art Center’s courtyard. Our weekend event has become an anticipated tradition,” said Middletown Arts Center Executive Director Hilary Nauman.

This year, our presenting sponsor, Premier Health Atrium Medical Center, has also graciously added a beautiful and special garden to the tour, Nauman said.

“Each garden has a little bit of a different feel,” she said. “We have a good amount of florals and herbs as well as a mix of different architectural elements.”

In addition to the courtyard at MAC and the Atrium Medical Center garden, there will be four residential gardens featured — the Emricks, the Millers, the Sacks and the Biedermanns/Reynolds.

Participant Dorothy Emrick said, “I get a lot of joy out of my yard, and it’s one of my happy places.”

This is the third time Emrick has been invited to be a part of the annual tour. “I’ve lived in Middletown since 1987, and I’ve always just played in my yard since then. It’s never the same, two years in a row. My interest in it came from my grandmothers’. They always had flowers, and I think that impressed me,” she said.

Rick Davies, event organizer, said

proceeds from the event support the Middletown Arts Center.

Davies said the event creates an awareness and offers exposure to the Middletown Arts Center. It also communicates a desire to be engaged in the community.

At the start of the tour on Saturday morning, Kris Nicely from Berns Garden Center will speak about “Pollinators, Butterfly and Hummingbird Gardens” at the MAC. The first 100 ticketholders will also receive an annual plant as a gift.

While at MAC, visit the student exhibition that is on display through July 14.

In related news, area garden enthusiasts may also want to participate in the nearby Lebanon Garden Tour, hosted the same weekend, on June 25 and June 26. This is Lebanon’s 26th annual tour. For more information, go online to the Facebook page at “Lebanon Garden Tour 2016.”
