There’s Aussies in Hamilton, E.D.G.E camp in Middletown and Crocodile Dock in Morrow this week.
It’s vacation Bible school time in Butler County, and area churches are opening their doors offering fun activities for children this summer. Songs, crafts and snacks are the mainstay of this annual tradition.
Decorating for E.D.G.E. started last Sunday, June 14, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave, in Middletown. Offered from 9 a.m. to noon through Friday, June 19, the program is geared for children in kindergarten through grade six. Sandy Fisher, church secretary, said the event usually attracts 80 to 100 children. Pastor Tim Doty sets the tone of day each morning when he arrives in camouflage and does a skit for the children.
In Hamilton, Pastor Rick Rhodus was excited at the approach of Boomerang Express. “We’re all going to be Aussies,” he said.
Rhodus and Janet Beck organized the week long event which starts at 6:30 p.m. each day through Friday, June 19, at the West Side Baptist Church, on Gordon Ave. Rhodus said his memories as a child at the Harmony Road Baptist Church near Oxford are fill with good times, especially the crafts and riding in a station wagon filled with his friends on their way to VBS.

• Allison Avenue Baptist Church, 5915 Allison Ave., Hamilton; 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Friday
• New Hope Baptist Church, 532 High St., Hamilton; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through Friday.
