Dayton Opera Guild's annual fundraiser is planned for Oct. 9-10

DAYTON — There are at least two types of people who attend the Opera Guild of Dayton's Bravo! Fashion Show. One group attends to support the arts.
"Then there are other people who plain like fashion," said Kimberly Robinson, Bravo's 2008 chairwoman. "It's a nice lady's day out."
She said both groups will be treated during this year's Bravo! fashion show, which includes a cocktail party and live auction Thursday, Oct. 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m.; and a champagne brunch beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10.
Bravo!'s futuristic theme "Coming of Age" will be apparent in everything from avant garde floral centerpieces to the sleek, edgy and chic casual wear, cocktail dresses and evening gowns on the runway, Robinson said.
The 21st annual event, which includes a boutique, will be in the Great Hall of the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair Community College in downtown Dayton and will be produced by Elan boutique in Kettering.
NaGuanda Nobles, who plays Liu in the upcoming Dayton Opera production of "Turandot," is expected to perform during the cocktail party. A floral, limited edition Hortensia crystal necklace valued at $3,900 also will be raffled courtesy of Weber Jewelers. Fashions from the Tom and Linda Platt collection will be featured in both productions.
Ticket prices start at $45 for the brunch and $65 for the cocktail party. Both prices are reduced from last year. For information, call Mollie Hauser at (937) 546-4074.
The event is a major fundraiser for the guild, a nonprofit organization that promotes opera in Greater Dayton.
"Sports are one element; science and math are one element. But people need a balance, and the arts provide that balance," said Suzanne Crippen, Bravo!'s publicity chairwoman.
