For the second time in four years the Indian Springs Jets rugby club will be going to Cleveland to compete in the High School Rugby Championship May 25 and 26.

The Jets, composed of 25 boys from six area schools – Fairfield, Cincinnati Christian, Mason, Lakota East, LaSalle and Finneytown – have a

4-2 record this season.

They qualified for the state meet by coming in second at the Cincinnati regional this past weekend. They defeated Moeller 10-7 by scoring on a penalty conversion – which is like a field goal in football – before losing to St. Xavier, 27-15, in the championship game.

"We made a few unforced errors (against St. Xavier), but that's how it happens," said Terreblanche. "A little bit of luck is involved sometimes, but we came knocking on their door."

Terreblanche credits much of this season's success toward the amount of depth the team has. The Jets roster is 25 players deep and only 15 can be on the field at once.

Their dedication was especially strong when the team started practice at the end of winter. Three times a week the team would go to Cincinnati Christian to practice, no matter what the weather conditions.

"We would go out and practice even with snow and ice on the ground," said Terreblanche. "I think the boys just came out with competitiveness and the boys stayed competitive."

And what does he think of the Jets chances in Cleveland?

"We're going to go and try our best," said Terreblanche. "Do I favor our chances of winning? I like to take it one game at a time."
