COLUMBUS — The girls high school state basketball tournament is a go for today, March, 7, but stay tuned. Heavy snow could postpone the four state title games scheduled for Saturday at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center.
The Division I state semifinal girls basketball game between Lakota West and Youngstown Boardman will be played as scheduled at 6 p.m. tonight, March 7, at Value City Arena in Columbus.
The pep buses headed to the game, however, have been cancelled.
The Firebirds (25-1) face Youngstown Boardman (19-7) tonight for a chance to play in the state finals on Saturday March 8.
"We have some scenarios we have talked about," said Bob Goldring, assistant commissioner with the Ohio High School Athletic Association said of possible changes for Saturday. "Part of it depends on if a snow emergency is declared."

If roads are declared impassable, the tournament could be moved to Sunday if any semifinal games still need to played. Ohio State's men's basketball team hosts Michigan State at noon Sunday. The earliest the girls could take the court Sunday would be 6 p.m.
Goldring said that if the state games need to be postponed, they likely would remain at their same starting times for Monday.
"This evening we are at the liberty of who makes the call for a snow emergency in the county government," Goldring said.
