Glamour night being conducted in Butler Co. — for men
Friday, January 09, 2009
One Way Farm is looking to show off some prominent men of Butler County — in women's clothing.
Glamour in the Night will be Feb. 28 and feature a silent auction, hot buffet, split the pot and local performer Bruce Wilburn. The marquee portion of the night is the Miss Universal Pageant (since some consider cars to be manly, the name is derived from a vehicle's universal joint).
"The prominent citizens of Fairfield and West Chester are going to be the definite card to help raise our funds," said One Way Farm founder and executive director Barb Condo. "Everyone is going to laugh, and today we have to laugh."
There is a need to raise funds for OWF, and that's what's spurring the event idea, said Condo. Contributors who had been reliable donors now are either making lower donations or no donations because of tough economic times.
"When you take a charity that's losing contributions at the rate of $2,000 to $20,000 a person, you're talking about a lot of money coming in," Condo said.
Pageant contestants will earn votes with donations raised. One dollar equals one vote.
Condo believes the community will respond well. She has secured well-known community members to be in the pageant, such as JoJo Schwarz, co-owner of Symmes and Rick's taverns, and Sam Minnelli, owner of Tori's Station.
"It's like when I ran out of food and I put a sign up saying I need meat and food, the community responded tremendously," Condo said.
Donations may be made by check or credit card. To vote before the event, either make a donation to One Way Farm or buy a corporate sponsorship.
Credit card donations may be made over the phone at (513) 829-3276 before 4 p.m. or (513) 460-9745 after 4 p.m. daily.
Check donations may be made out to One Way Farm and mailed to 6131 River Road, Fairfield, Ohio 45014.
When making donations, indicate the name of the contestant in the memo line. Contact One Way Farm for an updated list of contestants.
Corporate sponsorships are as follows:
• Silver Level is $1,000 (1,000 votes)
• Gold Level is $1,500 (1,500 votes)
• Platinum Level is $2,500 (2,500 votes)
All sponsorships include a table for eight the night of the event.
To attend, tickets are $40 per person. The ticket prices are not counted as votes for pageant contests. A table of eight costs $320 and is not included in the pageant vote total.
