HAMILTON — The attorney for former professional basketball player and University of Cincinnati center Corie Blount waived her client's right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday Dec. 17, in Butler County Area II Court.
The case against Blount, of Liberty Twp., now will be sent to a Butler County grand jury.
Blount did not appear in court Wednesday, but was represented by Kendall Shaw of the Cincinnati law firm of Porter Wright Morris & Arthur.
He is charged with possession of drugs — a third-degree felony — after his Dec. 4 arrest when law enforcement officials allegedly intercepted 11 pounds of marijuana sent to his grandmother's home in Liberty Twp.
Deputies said they also found two other packages of marijuana — one 11 pounds and the other seven pounds — at Blount's home, also in Liberty Twp.
Officials also confiscated $29,500, a 1996 Mercedes Benz, a 2004 Cadillac Escalade, a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban and three guns from Blount's home.
If convicted, Blount could face up to five years in prison. He does not have a prior criminal record in Butler County, officials said.
Blount posted $10,090 bail hours after he was booked into the Butler County Jail.
He had an 11-year career in the NBA, playing for eight different teams after being picked up in the first round of the NBA's 1993 draft by the Chicago Bulls.
He also was the starting center on Bearcat basketball teams that reached the Final Four in 1992 and Elite Eight in 1993.
