WEST CHESTER TWP. — Fans of Miley Cyrus and alter-ego Hannah Montana endured hours in the sweltering mid-summer heat Monday, July 28, for a few minutes aboard the pop star's tour bus.
Held in the parking lot of Voice of America Centre, the event was the fourth scheduled stop of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's "Rock Like They Do!" tour, which celebrated in advance the Aug. 19 Disney DVD release of the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus "Best of Both Worlds: The 3-D Concert" and "Camp Rock: Extended Rock Star Edition."
Devotees from as far away as Florence, Ky., and Sunman, Ind., let Great Clips staffers style and color their hair like a rock star, crooned along with Camp Rock karaoke and posed for photos alongside full-size cut outs of Montana and the Camp Rock cast.
Shawna Hudson of Liberty Twp. surprised daughter Courtney, 8, and son Conner, 5, by taking them to the event without telling them where they were going.
"She squealed and then she couldn't wait to get in line and see what she'd get to do," Hudson said of her daughter's reaction.
Hudson and the projected 2,000-plus other fans who turned out for the event went home with free Montana/Cyrus bookmarks, magnets, posters and Great Clips hair styling products.
West Chester Twp. mother Melissa Klaassen brought daughter Hannah, 9, and five neighborhood friends.
"However many I could fit in my car," Klaassen said.
Dan and Shanna Sullivan of Liberty Twp. turned out with daughter Torri, 8, and son Danny, 5.
"She was a little discouraged with the line but now that we're here, she's loving it," Shanna Sullivan said.
Jim Stelene of West Chester Twp. skipped work for the afternoon to bring daughter Lydia, 8, and three of her friends. He said the event was worth the more than 3-hour wait.
"She wants it. She's happy," he said.
Lydia said the only thing better than getting to see inside the tour bus would be getting to meet her idol.
"I just love Hannah Montana," Lydia said. "She's a great singer."
From here, the "Rock Like They Do!" tour hits six more stops, including Cleveland, Baltimore and Toronto.
