FAIRFIELD — Friends, family and neighbors gathered in disbelief outside the home of a Fairfield resident who apparently drowned in his backyard pool.

Police were called at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, to the home of 61-year-old Andrew E. Daniel in the 5700 block of Sigmon Way.

Fairfield police Sgt. Lori Cresap said the man's body was found in the pool when crews arrived. No one else was at home when the apparent drowning occurred, Cresap said. The victim's wife called for emergency services, and there were no signs of foul play, Cresap said.

The Butler County Coroner's Office was called to the scene as police guarded the home. Daniel's body remained in the backyard for more than an hour as coroner's officials conducted an investigation.

A neighbor was visibly shocked to learn that Daniel had drowned. She said he let her children swim in his pool on hot days.

Cresap said the victim may have had a heart attack and then fell into the pool. A cause of death won't be determined until the coroner's office does an autopsy, Cresap said.
