Friday, May 09, 2008

HAMILTON — Police have arrested a Hamilton man accused of stabbing another man during a fight on Second Street.

Jason Shane Wilson, 27, of the 500 block of Highland Place, is charged with felonious assault in the fight that occurred at 6:19 a.m. Friday, May 9. Police said Wilson was arrested shortly after stabbing 34-year-old James B. Smiley, of the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue.

Wilson is also charged with tampering with evidence and having a counterfeit controlled substance, according to police records.

Smiley suffered two stab wounds in the stomach and was taken initially to the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, police said. Smiley has been transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was in intensive care Friday evening.

The fight occurred near the corner of Second and Minster streets, which lies about one mile south of downtown Hamilton. Police and emergency crews responded after a delivery truck driver called 911. The driver told the dispatcher that a white male had a knife and was on top of a black male in the street, according to the 911 tape.

Wilson will be arraigned at Hamilton Municipal Court on Monday, May 12.
