HAMILTON — A father may have caused the death of his 5-month-old girl when he shook her because she wouldn't stop crying, according to Hamilton police.

Vincent Blanda, 37, of the 500 block of Williams Avenue, was arrested Monday, March 24, and charged with a second-degree felony of endangering children and misdemeanor domestic violence, according to police records.

Those charges came before the 5-month-old died Tuesday, March 25, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Butler County Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer McElfresh said Tuesday a homicide charge of some type against Blanda will be filed this week or next.

Blanda admitted to police that he shook the infant because she wouldn't stop crying, police said. The infant, whose name has not been released, was "limp and pale" when police and paramedics responded to Blanda's residence. The child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where she was being treated for "severe abusive head trauma," according to police records.

McElfresh said Blanda is scheduled to be in Hamilton Municipal Court on Tuesday, April 1.
