St. Raphael offers support
Monday, January 29, 2007
Editor's Note: Each Monday, the JournalNews presents a feature called Who Cares? It is designed to help bring readers closer to organizations that serve their communities. By profiling agencies or groups with specific needs, we are spotlighting the people of those organizations and telling you the services they provide. We are acting as a conduit, inviting you to respond to help support your community by providing goods to these groups. If you have items to donate, please drop them off at the JournalNews, 228 Court St., Hamilton.

What it does: For more than 60 years, Mercy Franciscan at St. Raphael has provided people living in the city of Hamilton and surrounding Butler County communities with support services in times of crisis. When individuals and families suffer setbacks from job loss or homelessness, St. Raphael stands ready with emergency supplies of food, clothing and temporary shelter. But over the years, the agency has grown to be so much more. An outreach nursing program provides medical care, screenings, prescription assistance and health education to people in the community who are uninsured. The agency offers basic supplies to new mothers to help their babies get a healthy start. It provides daily free lunches for the needy and supplies daily snacks to disadvantaged children at a local community care center.
Who it serves: Low income Butler County residents.
Needs: Currently, Mercy Franciscan at St Raphael is in need of baby supplies for their layette program. This program serves low-income new mothers that need help with necessities for their baby. The agency is requesting donations of new, unused baby items such as diapers (all sizes), baby bottles, clothing, bath supplies, blankets, pacifiers, cribs, strollers, and other baby articles. Very gently used, unstained baby clothing is also accepted.
