The theme is "Perceptions, Reflections and Directions."
"My work has been an artist's search for a deeper understanding of my heritage and myself, using photography as a medium and the Appalachian people as collaborators with their own desires to communicate," Adams said. "I hope my photographs confront viewers, reminding them of their own vulnerability and humanity.
"I hope too that viewers will see in these photographs something of the abiding strength, resourcefulness and dignity of the mountain people."
Adams has been making black-and-white photographs with his people in Appalachia for more than three decades.
MUH also is developing an academic program for studies of Appalachia, according to Dr. Lee Sanders, senior associate dean for academic affairs.
Other scheduled events include a live music performance by the bluegrass band Cherryholmes at 8 p.m. Saturday in Parrish Auditorium and a lecture by novelist and author Silas House at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6, in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center.
