Science meets religion at MUH

HAMILTON — Miami University Hamilton is scheduled to host one of the most renowned scientists of the 21st century in September as part of "Creation, A Meeting of Science and Religion."

Dr. Edward Osborne Wilson is scheduled to speak at MUH at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Parrish Auditorium.

The theme for his speech is also the title of his most recent book. Wilson's lecture at MUH falls on the eve of the book's release to the public, according to the university.

"This is a huge deal.  We are bringing in a natural scientist of the very highest caliber.  We look forward to the event with great anticipation," said Jim Neidhard, MUH director of development. "Demands for Dr. Wilson's time are never ending. His schedule is very hectic."

Wilson was highlighted in the May issue of National Geographic magazine. A Harvard University professor for four decades, Wilson, 77, has many scientific and conservation honors to his credit, including two Pulitzer Prizes for non-fiction books on human nature and ants.

The event is being presented by Don and Claire Fitton, longtime supporters of MUH's campus, according to Dr. Daniel E. Hall, campus dean.

"We're grateful for the support of the Fitton family," Hall said. "They are tremendously important to our community."

The event is free and open to the public; however tickets are limited to two per request. To reserve a seat call (513) 785-3020.
