HAMILTON — Police are searching for an Hispanic male suspected of stabbing a Middletown man who later died early Saturday morning.
Sometime between 2 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., Mario Rios, 23, of Hill Avenue in Middletown, was stabbed several times after getting into an argument with his girlfriend, police said.
According to authorities, Rios was in the 600 block of Ludlow Street when he was involved in a verbal altercation with his girlfriend and was approached by several Hispanic males.
Police said an Hispanic male, described as in his 20s, used a large knife and cut Rios on the right forearm and then stabbed him in the back.
A witness drove Rios to Fort Hamilton Hospital for treatment. He was later taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, hospital officials said.
The incident was reported to police by Fort Hamilton Hospital, officials said.
"It did make it more difficult that we weren't called to the actual scene," said Don Taylor, police spokesman.
The Hamilton County Coroner's Office did not release a cause of death.
"Right now, detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and have been since it was reported to the police department," Taylor said. "Right now, we have no further information that can be released at this time."
