Hands-on business aims to help pain-filled bodies

Massage Envy does more than pamper its clients.

While many people associate the word "massage" with the luxuries of a spa-like retreat, the majority of the business' clients show up seeking relief from specific aches and pains, said Theresa Holderread, who opened the franchise in late April with her husband, Tom, at 3417 Princeton Road in Fairfield Twp.'s Bridgewater Falls.

"We've come to realize that people come to see us not just when they're feeling good," she said. "They want somebody to help make them feel better. It's more than just the relaxation."

Massage Envy offers 10 modalities of therapeutic massage ranging from deep tissue and sports to prenatal and cranial sacral, all delivered by licensed massage therapists.

Ginger Justice of Fairfield began visiting Massage Envy two months ago to alleviate pain she experiences from a bad back and years of fibromyalgia.

"It lasts two or three days and really helps the pain," she said. "I'm glad it's there."

Holderread said Massage Envy provides information customers need to pass along to their insurance company.

"We want people to know there are wellness benefits out there," she said. "I think they're surprised they can come in and get a professional, affordable and convenient massage."

Massage Envy is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to

6 p.m. Sunday. Walk-in appointments are welcome.
