Cincinnati Christian girls win

NEWPORT, Ky. — The Cincinnati Christian girls basketball team defeated Newport (Ky.) 44-29 Thursday in the Cougar Classic at Calvary Christian High School.

Abby Wolford led the Cougars with 10 points.

COLLEGE HOCKEY

MU’s Reichard one of five finalists

OXFORD — Miami University senior goalie Cody Reichard was named as one of five finalists for the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award on Thursday.

Each of the finalists will be recognized with a financial donation to the charity of their choice; Reichard’s will go to Swoop’s Stoop, a program whose mission is to provide life-enriching experiences to area children facing life-changing illnesses.

On Wednesday he was named one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

RedHawks sign 
11 recruits

OXFORD — Coach Bobby Kramig announced that his Miami University women’s soccer team has signed 11 high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, including four from Southwest Ohio.

The RedHawks signed Lauren Matthews, midfielder from Badin High School; Haley Walter, midfielder-forward from of Kings; Sydney Neal, midfielder from of Carlisle; and Morgan Beck, forward-midfielder from Mariemont.

Other newcomers are Jess Bronke, midfielder from Downers Grove, Ill.; Catherine Caniglia, midfielder from Naperville, Ill.; Ashley Hull, goalkeeper from Canonsburg, Pa.; Lauren Kelly, defender from Manhattan, Ill.; Katie Mazurek, defender from Dublin; Shannon Stearns, midfielder-defender from Orland Hills, Ill.; and Katee Wensinger, midfielder-forward from Stow.

COLLEGE TRACK

Miami welcomes four into fold

OXFORD — Four athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Miami University women’s track and field team, coach Kelly Phillips announced.

Signing with the RedHawks were Kala Allen, sprinter from East Amherst, N.Y.; Jessica Baker, high jumper from Aurora; Mary Davis, a distance runner from Indianapolis; and Lauren Schattinger, sprinter from Cortland.
