Reichard finalist for CLASS Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Miami University senior hockey goaltender Cody Reichard has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Premier Sports Management announced Wednesday.
The award is given annually to one senior student-athlete in several NCAA-sponsored sports and recognizes someone who has had notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on either the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website or the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 18. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I men’s hockey head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Sullivan collects MAC frosh honor
CLEVELAND — Miami University freshman basketball guard Brian Sullivan of Upper Arlington has been named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Month for January, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Sullivan scored in double figures in six of MU’s eight games in January, including two 20-point performances.

Smith gets 2nd monthly award
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — For the second time in three months, Miami University junior forward Reilly Smith has been named the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month, winning it for the month of January, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday.
Smith won the CCHA Player of the Month award for November as well, which was his first career Player of the Month honor.
Smith had a stellar January, leading Miami to a 6-2 month and climbing the RedHawks all the way to second place in the CCHA standings.

RedHawk women cruise past CMU
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Courtney Osborn just missed a triple-double with 12 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and nine assists Wednesday night as the Miami University women’s basketball team beat host Central Michigan 79-57.
Maggie Boyer (14), Kirsten Olowinski (13), Hannah Robertson (13) and Erica Almady (10) also scored in double digits for the RedHawks, who are 17-5 overall and 7-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Chippewas are 12-11, 4-5.
MU visits Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Holloway lifts XU to 59-58 triumph
WASHINGTON — Tu Holloway’s layup with 30 seconds to play capped off a great night for the senior guard as his 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds led Xavier University’s men’s basketball team to a 59-58 win over George Washington on Wednesday night.
The Musketeers (15-7, 6-3 Atlantic 10 Conference) held the Colonials (8-14, 3-5) scoreless for the last 3:22.

Tressel may be headed for Akron
Former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel soon may be headed to Akron.
The University of Akron is in discussions with Tressel about taking an administrative position at the university. An announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m. today.
Tressel, 59, is scheduled to appear this afternoon at a fundraiser at Berea High School, his alma mater.
