Weldon leads Miami baseball

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Miami claimed a share of the Hughes Bros. Tires Challenge on Sunday with an 8-1 over Marist.

Kyle Weldon went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Adam Weisenburger and Ryan Brennan added two hits apiece for Miami (3-3).

Tyler Melling improved to 2-0 on the mound for the RedHawks, scattering seven hits and allowing one run in six innings.

Miami softball wins Louisville tourney

LOUISVILLE — The Miami University softball team won the Red and Black Tournament on Sunday with wins over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (3-0) and host Louisville (6-5).

Meghan Mawn went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Kayla Ledbetter went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in the Redhawks’ win over Louisville.

In the win over SIEU, Miami’s Jessica Simpson fired a three-hit shutout and struck out 10. Simpson also cracked a two-run homer for the RedHawks (7-3).

MUH baseball swept by Rio Grande

RIO GRANDE — The Miami University Hamilton baseball team dropped its first two games of the season Sunday in a doubleheader sweep at Rio Grande University.

Rio Grande scored 5-1 and 9-1 wins at Bob Evans Field.

MUH was limited to just one hit in the opener. In the second game, the Harriers’ Joe Jocketty went 2-for-3 and Bud Brown had an RBI.
