RedHawks rock Eastern Kentucky
OXFORD — Miami University’s baseball team defeated Eastern Kentucky 11-3 Wednesday night, March 24 at McKie Field to raise its record to 9-10.
Miami’s 14-hit attack was led by Jordan Jankowski, 2-for-2 with a home run, double and two RBIs; Kyle Weldon, 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs; Zac Hatfield, 3-for-5 with two doubles; and Jon Edginton, 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Miami will play Central Michigan at home at 6 p.m. Friday, March 26 in the first of a three-game series.
Lucas to join Circle of Champions
COLUMBUS — Jerry Lucas will be honored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association by becoming one of five new members of its Circle of Champions.
The former Middletown High School basketball great will be joined by the late Jesse Owens, Al Oliver, Hopalong Cassady and Tony Trabert. They will be honored today, March 25, during the Division III semifinals of the boys state tournament in Columbus.
Lucas was an All-American, national and Ohio player of the year when he led the Middies to two state championships and a state-record 76-game winning streak from 1956-58.
In three years at Ohio State he led the Buckeyes to a 78-6 record and the program’s only national championship. He was named National Player of the Year twice.
Lucas played 11 years in the NBA with the Royals, Warriors and Knicks, averaged 17 points and 15.6 rebounds and was selected as one of the league’s 50 greatest players of all time.
