RedHawks rally to beat Hoosiers
OXFORD — Miami University’s baseball team rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth to beat Indiana 6-1 Tuesday night at McKie Field.
Kyle Weldon drove in three runs for the RedHawks (14-14), who defeated former Miami coach Tracy Smith for the fourth straight time.
Winning pitcher Shawn Marquardt allowed just three hits in five scoreless innings of relief. Bryde Redeker went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Brad Gschwind was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the RedHawks, who collected just four hits.
Carlisle’s Smith signs with MUH
CARLISLE — Carlisle High School senior Rachael Smith recently signed to play basketball at Miami University Hamilton. Smith, who plans on majoring in sports management, converted 61 percent of her free throws (14-of-23) while averaging three rebounds and 4.05 points per game for the Indians (16-5) this season.
Miami University Hamilton is coached by Chris Settles. The Harriers finished with an 8-10 overall record and 5-8 in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference.
