Quartet of West grads helps Butler University

Butler University is unbeaten on the football field this fall, aided by a quartet of Lakota West High School graduates.

• Redshirt sophomore defensive end Grant Hunter has 13 solo tackles and 18 assists. He’s registered 10.5 tackles for loss.

• Junior cornerback Tadd Dombart has collected two interceptions while totaling 10 solo tackles and five assists. He’s also returned 11 punts for 66 yards.

• Redshirt sophomore linebacker Andrew Cottrell has 10 solo tackles and 10 assists.

• Redshirt freshman strong safety Matt Foor has recovered a fumble. He’s marked two solo tackles and four assists.

Another local player is sophomore defensive tackle Larry Thomas (St. Xavier), a West Chester Twp. native. He has six solo tackles, three assists and a fumble recovery.

Butler, an NCAA Division I-AA (FCS) squad, is 7-0 for the first time since 1983. The Bulldogs are 4-0 in the Pioneer Football League, tied for first place with Dayton and Drake.

Butler hosts Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 31.

• Senior Sean Keith (Lakota East) is a starting offensive guard for unbeaten Thomas More, one of the top Division III teams in the country. The Saints are 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

• Freshman defensive lineman Donovan Jarrett (Hamilton) has one solo tackle and three assists for Ball State, which is 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

Women’s soccer

Two local players have helped Akron reel off five straight victories, improving the Zips’ record to 8-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

Senior Heather Rains (Badin) and junior Katelyn Hausfeld (Ursuline), a Middletown native, are defenders for Akron. Rains is a starter, and Hausfeld comes off the bench.

Men’s soccer

Sophomore forward Matt Bahner (Lakota West) is the No. 4 point producer for Cincinnati with three goals and one assist.

The Bearcats stand 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the Big East Conference.
