CINCINNATI — Micah Owings homered and pitched into the seventh inning to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2 on Saturday.

Joey Votto also homered and drove in two runs and Willy Taveras had three hits to help lift the Reds to their third win in their last four games. Owings (6-8) allowed six hits and two runs in 6 2-3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Reliever Nick Masset got Albert Pujols to ground out with runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh inning, less than 24 hours after Pujols hit a grand-slam in the eighth inning to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead on their way to a 7-4 win on Friday.

Francisco Cordero pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save.

The turning point of the game was when Homer walked only his second batter of the game. Keep in mind he only gave up 3 hits. What happens next... Baker pulls him and puts in Stormy Weathers, who Pujols owns for his career. The Reds need a new manager. I put the blam on Dusty, not the players.

With the game on the line in the eighth inning, why pitch to Pujol? Just put him on 1st. base and it's 3-1 and we go from there. But that takes some forethought from the manager.

Pujols should never see another strike when playing the Reds...Just walk the guy, every time. He is not human. He is a hitting machine. But he can't hurt us with his bat if we take it out of his hand...

Pujols hits a grand slam to go ahead late in the game. Should have been walked. 1 run is better than four. Then in the ninth with an open base, a fast ball should have been neatly placed right between the P and the U.
That's pretty much what I think of Baker. Peeeeuuuuueeeeewwww!

Unfortunately I believe this is the turning point for the Reds season. Afraid they will now slide down toward the bottom of the league and finish 2nd last. This was a momentum and confidence breaker. How can the players have confidence in the management or coaching now.
