The men’s basketball team at Murray State may be getting most of the headlines with its perfect 23-0 record and No. 9 national ranking, but the women’s team, featuring Lakota West grad Tessa Elkins, is collecting its share of wins as well.

The Racers have won six of their last nine to improve to 10-14 overall and 7-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Elkins has led the team in rebounding in three of its last four games and five games overall. She is averaging 5.0 rebounds per game, which is third best on the team. She also is scoring 7.1 points per contest, which ranks fourth on the squad.

On Monday, the junior guard recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 66-56 victory against Tennessee State.

She also is a member of the dean’s list at Murray State.

• College of Mount St. Joseph senior guard and Fairfield resident Leah Schroeder (McAuley) is averaging 5.1 points per game for the Lions.

Coming off the bench for most of the season, Schroeder is averaging 4.9 rebounds per game, which is tied for the third best average on the team.

Junior guard Whitney Mueller (Badin) also is seeing some limited time off the bench, averaging 1.4 points per game. She has played in nine of the team’s 21 games.

Ohio State sophomore Ray Gordon (Fairfield) is seeing action on the mat for the second year in a row despite joining the Buckeyes as a walk-on.

Gordon is 3-5 this year in the 197-pound weight class, winning three of his last four decisions.
OSU senior Bo Touris (Lakota West) has been victorious in his only 125-pound match this season.

Sophomore Stephen Humbert (Lakota East) helped Baldwin-Wallace win the five-team Wooster Invitational last Saturday.

Humbert took seventh place in the one-mile run with a time of
4:41.15.

The Yellow Jackets totaled 183 points in the team standings. Wittenberg was runner-up (111.50).
