MSJ pitcher Bouley starts strong

Brandon Bouley is off to a blazing start on the mound for the College of Mount St. Joseph baseball team.

The junior left-hander has made three starts for the Lions (4-5), going 3-0 with a 1.00 earned run average. The Hamilton High School graduate has 19 strikeouts and six walks in 18 innings.

Three other Butler County players are contributing for the Mount:

Sophomore catcher Kyle Ottaway (Fairfield) has played in five games and is hitting .125 with an RBI. Freshman pitcher Alex Johnson (Fairfield) has thrown nine innings and is 0-0 with a 5.00 ERA, while freshman hurler Mike Denning (Hamilton) is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 2.2 innings.

MSJ returns to action today, March 16, with a doubleheader against Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Ky.

Women’s swimming

Buffalo freshman Katelyn Pratt-Collins (Fairfield) competed at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Oxford on Feb. 24-27.

Pratt-Collins finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.59) and 12th in the 100 back (56.83). The Bulls placed fifth as a team.

Women’s indoor track & field

Sophomore Katie Lanphier (Cincinnati Christian) was part of the Cedarville distance medley relay unit that advanced to the NAIA Indoor Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Yellow Jackets’ foursome didn’t make it to the finals, but finished seventh in their semifinal heat (12:47.24).

Men’s basketball

Junior forward Eddie Brown (Badin) averaged 7.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game for Thomas More, which finished 21-7 and earned a share of its second straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

Women’s basketball

Freshman guard Tessa Elkins (Lakota West) played in every game off the bench this season for Murray State (13-17).

She averaged 4.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 14.7 minutes per contest for the Racers, shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the foul line.
