Miami icers hold off BGSU
BOWLING GREEN — The sixth-ranked Miami University hockey team held off Bowling Green 4-3 on Friday night in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play.
Miami (7-3-3, 5-2-2) was led by sophomore forward Reilly Smith, who scored a goal and had two assists. It was the RedHawks’ eighth straight win over the Falcons.
Pat Cannone, Will Weber and Joe Hartman also scored for Miami, which built a 4-1 lead through two periods. Andy Miele had a pair of assists.
Bowling Green fell to 5-8-0, 2-7-0.
Miami volleyball upsets W. Michigan
TOLEDO — The 11th-seeded Miami University volleyball team stunned third-seeded Western Michigan in five games (12-25, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 16-14) Friday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference tournament.
Lisa Treadway recorded 19 digs and 13 kills for Miami, which fought off a pair of match points in the fifth and deciding set. Amy Raseman added 16 kills and Michelle Metzler had 12.
Miami (12-19) will face Ohio or Buffalo at 7 p.m. today in the semifinals. WMU fell to 22-9.
