OXFORD — Charlie Coles wouldn’t mind having Josh Sewell on his team today, but the Miami University basketball coach will have to wait a year.

Sewell, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard who is considered a prime candidate to win this season’s Mr. Basketball award in Kentucky, is one of three recruits who signed national letters of intent for Miami on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Also making official commitments to Miami are Quinten Rollins, a 6-0, 180-pound point guard from Wilmington High and Jon Harris, a 6-8, 185-pound forward from Twinsburg High School.

Sewell was a third-team all-state selection as a junior at Trinity High School in Louisville, Ky.

“Josh Sewell, in my mind, is the most aggressive perimeter player I’ve ever signed as a head coach,” Coles said.

“The guy is aggressive on offense, he takes the ball to the basket, he’s got a great pull-up jump shot, needs to work on his outside jump shot a little bit,” the Miami coach said, “but boy can he get fouled.”

Coles said Sewell is equally aggressive on defense.

“Physically, he could play for our basketball team right now,” Coles said. “That’s what excites me most about him. He’s ready to play physically and he’s ready to play mentally.”

Rollins was named Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division Player of the Year as a sophomore. As a running back he also was considered a legitimate Division I football recruit.

“Quinten is equally as good on the basketball floor, and probably better (than on a football field),” Coles said. “He loves basketball and tells me he loves Miami University, and I’m so glad because I think this guy can come in, along with Josh Sewell, and play right away and not give up anything.”

Harris, according to Coles, needs to work on his physical strength, but doesn’t think that will be a problem.

“If someone would ask me who has the most professional potential of any guy that I’ve signed since (Wally) Szczerbiak, it would be Jon Harris,” Coles said. “He’s 6-foot-8, very thin, but very skilled.”
