BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Terrell Hudgins caught 11 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown to help Elon beat Samford 27-7 on Saturday.
Scott Riddle went 27-for-42 for 278 yards passing, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hudgins to give the Phoenix (9-2, 7-1 Southern Conference) a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.
Brandon Newsome, who finished with 52 yards rushing on 16 carries, scored on a 1-yard run and A.J. Harris followed with a 14-yard rushing touchdown to put Elon ahead 24-0 in the third. Harris the Phoenix with 75 yards rushing on 13 attempts.
Elon held the Bulldogs (5-6, 3-5) scoreless until Samford quarterback Dustin Taliaferro connected with Richie Fordham on a 6-yard touchdown. Taliaferro passed for 126 yards and threw two interceptions.
Chris Evans finished with 99 yards rushing for Samford.
