A second round of interviews will take place for the vacant boys basketball position at Lakota West High School.
West athletic director Gerry Weisgerber said Wednesday, April 29, that the school will be conducting a second round of interviews next week.
Eight candidates have been interviewed, most recently Keith Noftz (assistant, Central Michigan University) and Larry Ham (former head coach, Trotwood Madison and Springfield South) on Tuesday, April 28.
Weisgerber hopes to know Thursday, April 30, who will get a second interview; no more than four will be brought back.
Six candidates were interviewed last week: Scott Mueller (interim head coach, West); Tom Orth (assistant, Oak Hills; former head coach, Northwest); Jason Grunkemeyer (assistant, Miami University); Reggie Hall (assistant, Lakota East); Sean Van Winkle (head coach, Ross); and Erik Goetz (head coach, Holy Cross, Ky.).
“They’ve all gone well,” Weisgerber said. “Everybody we’ve brought in we’ve felt comfortable with. That will make it an even tougher decision. There’s so many good candidates.”
Wrestling vacancy
Tim Kessler — the lone applicant for the vacant wrestling position — will have his formal interview next week.
Weisgerber said the goal is to recommend a new boys basketball and wrestling coach at the May 11 school board meeting.
