BOYS BASKETBALL

COUGARS NOW 8-7 (Freshman): Edgewood improved to 8-7 with two victories this week. The Cougars beat Little Miami 50-30, led by the scoring of Chance Conley (10), David Jones (9), Eric Pelfrey (8) and Austin Farler (8). Edgewood also topped Ross 39-35 in overtime. Conley had 12 points and Cody Hall chipped in 11.

BADIN LOSES TWICE (Freshman): The Rams are 3-11 overall and 0-9 in the Greater Catholic League after losing twice this week. On Tuesday, Badin fell to St. Xavier 46-28. Perris Smiley led the Rams with 10 points, while Chris Pickerill and Drew Evers each had eight. On Friday, the Rams lost to Roger Bacon 44-28, getting 13 points from Alex Zinn and seven from Matt Montgomery.

RAMS SPLIT PAIR (Junior varsity): Badin is 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the Greater Catholic League after splitting two games this week. On Tuesday, the Rams lost to St. Xavier 39-24. Heath Stricker scored nine points and Jimmy Kes added six. On Friday, Badin defeated Roger Bacon 55-39 and was led in scoring by Alex Wendel (15), Morgan Reynolds (12) and Stricker (11).

EDGEWOOD HAS UP-AND-DOWN WEEK (Seventh grade): The Cougars beat Norwood 41-24. Seth Watts played a solid game, hitting a 3-pointer with two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kyle Taylor added four points and four rebounds, and Travis Flannery earned his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Nathan Mueller added five points and six rebounds. In a 50-26 loss to Mount Healthy, the Cougars had 12 steals and six blocks. In a 44-23 loss to Pleasant Run, Edgewood got 14 points from Flannery and seven from Trace Reynolds. In a 40-31 triumph over Ross, Flannery scored 17 points and Christian Palmer added 10. And in an 80-20 victory against Talawanda, Flannery poured in 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Reynolds added 21 points, Tanner Wright had eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals, and Nathan Mueller contributed 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.

ROSS 42, NORWOOD 18 (Junior varsity): Brennan McGuire and Gus Madden both had nine points for the victorious Rams, and A.J. Kruzel added eight.

ROSS 47, NORWOOD 27 (Freshman): Josh Oaks (10), Brandon Fernandez (8) and Jake Shields (7) led the scoring in the Rams’ victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BADIN SPLITS (Junior varsity): The Rams moved to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League after splitting a pair of recent games. Badin lost to visiting Dayton Chaminade Julienne 59-24 and was led by Alicia Dudley’s 10 points. The Rams rebounded with a 28-24 win over host Edgewood. Leading the way were Katelyn Kreke (10 points), Kelly Cassano (six points, three assists), Taryn Stang (six points), Dudley (six rebounds, five steals, three assists) and Victoria Heflin (four rebounds).

EDGEWOOD 62, TALAWANDA 29 (Junior varsity): Samantha Wilson scored 17 points and Staci Jett had 14 for the Cougars, who improved to 13-4.

ROSS LOSES, WINS (Eighth grade): The Rams split two games this week. Anna Hall scored nine points and Sam Madden had five in a 35-24 loss to Edgewood. Ross defeated Mount Healthy 46-10 as Madden marked 10 points, Erin Yohey had six and Hall added five.

LIBERTY WINS, LOSES (Seventh grade): Liberty won and lost this week, starting with a 40-19 victory over Princeton Red. Brittany Hughes scored eight points, Sharmine Wills and Chelsey Horn each had seven, and Elizabeth Sampson totaled six points and five steals. Liberty then lost to Mason White 21-14. Leah Goodwin led all scorers with eight points in the losing effort.

COUGARS UNBEATEN (Seventh grade): Edgewood won twice this week, improving its record to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference. Brittany Marts had 13 points in a 37-22 victory over Ross. Marts also had 11 points in a 40-9 triumph over Talawanda.

EDGEWOOD SPLITS (Eighth grade): The Cougars are 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference after splitting two games this week. Kasey McCall had 15 points in a 35-24 win over Ross. Edgewood lost to Talawanda 36-26 as Karri Bowlin tossed in 14 points.

ROSS GOES 1-1 (Seventh grade): The Rams split a pair of games this week. They lost to Edgewood 37-22 and were led in scoring by Hayley Hudson (9), Sarah Merrill (6) and Jordan Staggs (5). Ross rebounded to beat Mount Healthy 39-16. Top scorers were Hudson (20) and Courtney Pingleton (6).

BOYS BOWLING

FAIRFIELD 2,504, ST. XAVIER 2,350 (Junior varsity): The Indians moved to 10-1 with Wednesday’s victory. Paul Schmidt (200-171—371) and Gregg Jordan (366 series) paced the winners.

WRESTLING

ROSS TAKES TOP SPOTS (Middle school): Ross took first and second place last weekend in Williamsburg. The Maroon squad had 308 points and 10 individual champions, while the Gold team was second with 119.5 points, topping third-place Milford by 20 points. Winning individual titles for the Rams were Nick Goins, Ben Fritz, Austin Russell, Alex Cary, Michael Pate, Josh Doyle, Andrew Dunn, Drew Chase, Luke Hannon and Gavin Peacock. Placing second for Ross were James Sandlin, Dalton Jones and Daniel Sheehan. Taking third were Kane Walsh, Will Buelsing, Brandon Luther, Tyler King and Knoah Nickoson. Aaron Cox, Nick Reffitt, Caleb Goodwin and Ryan Steigerwald all placed fourth.

SWIMMING & DIVING

HAMILTON PLACES FOURTH (Junior high): Hamilton, a first-year program, came in fourth place in the Cincinnati Junior High Championships. The 18 participating teams were split into large- and small-team divisions, and Hamilton competed in the small division. Eighth-grader Khayman Jones led the team in individual event scoring, taking first place in the 1-meter springboard diving and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Seventh-grader Jacob Jones earned fourth place in diving, and eighth-grader Jonathan Engel was ninth in the 100 breaststroke and 100 individual medley. Additional point winners were Jesse Cooke, Tyler Vieira, Chase Engel, Ben Houser and Adam Kranbuhl.
