Prep headlines: Lakota West clinches GMC volleyball title

VOLLEYBALL

LAKOTA WEST 3, PRINCETON 0: The visiting Firebirds clinched the outright Greater Miami Conference championship Thursday with their 25-5, 25-5, 25-4 triumph. It was also the 200th coaching win for Tracey Kornau at West (324th overall). The Firebirds are 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the GMC, while the Vikings are 2-12, 0-7. West visits St. Ursula on Monday.

BADIN 3, PURCELL MARIAN 0: Chrissy Carley had 13 digs and Megan Purves totaled nine kills Thursday as the host Rams rolled 25-12, 25-20, 25-22. Badin, 10-9 overall and 3-6 in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Grey Central Division, visits Cincinnati Christian on Monday.

TALAWANDA 3, ROSS 0: Lydia Dysart had five kills and five blocks Thursday as the host Braves rolled to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 victory. Casey Baxter-Wilms (nine digs), Allison Brown (six blocks) and Maggie Johnson (seven kills, two aces) boosted Talawanda, which is 9-9 overall and 8-1 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division. The Braves clinched at least a share of the Scarlet title and will travel to Norwood on Tuesday. Ross is 8-10, 5-4, and plays at Taylor on Saturday.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 3, SUMMIT COUNTRY DAY 1: The visiting Cougars improved to 14-3 with Thursday’s 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23 Miami Valley Conference triumph. CCS hosts Badin on Monday.

FAIRFIELD 3, MIDDLETOWN 1: Karsen Cronin had 19 kills and 12 digs Thursday as the visiting Indians notched a 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 25-15 victory. Christi Grimes (41 assists), Beth Willis (13 kills, seven digs) and Taylor Berryman (four kills, four blocks) also played well for Fairfield, which is 7-12 overall and 2-5 in the Greater Miami Conference. Middletown (8-8, 2-6) hosts Winton Woods on Monday. The Indians travel to Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

CINCINNATI HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3, NEW MIAMI 0: The host Vikings fell to 5-10 overall and 4-7 in the Miami Valley Conference on Thursday, dropping a 26-24, 25-13, 25-23 decision. Kim Gault (seven service points, five aces, 10 kills, eight digs), Kayla Phillips (eight service points) and Alyssa Rison (nine digs) paced New Miami, which visits Cincinnati Christian on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

FAIRFIELD 3, MIDDLETOWN 0: Kyle Troutman tallied three goals Thursday as the visiting Indians posted a weather-shortened victory. The game was called early in the second half. Marc Hansson and Ben Hasselbeck had assists for Fairfield, and Nathan Ducklo totaled two saves in goal. The Indians, 11-1-3 overall and 6-0-2 in the Greater Miami Conference, travel to Sycamore on Tuesday. Middletown (6-6-1, 3-5) hosts Edgewood on Saturday.

ROSS 4, NORTHWEST 0: Aaron Rheinfrank had two goals Thursday as the host Rams clinched the outright Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division title. Troy Spampinato and Alex Oliver also scored for Ross, and Zach Elam, Brandon Burns and Zach Dourson added assist. Richie Burns got the shutout in goal with three saves. The Rams, 11-1-1 overall and 5-0 in the FAVC, travel to Wilmington on Saturday. Northwest is 1-11-2, 1-4.

LAKOTA WEST 3, PRINCETON 0: Connor Johnson, Frank Re and Nick Hagglund had goals Thursday for the visiting Firebirds, who moved to 9-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Greater Miami Conference. Hagglund, Tyler Eno and Patrick Henke all had assists, and Robert Hasselfeld (1 save) and Michael Sartain (0 saves) combined for the shutout in goal. Princeton is 1-10-1, 1-7. West hosts Centerville on Saturday.

CINCINNATI COUNTRY DAY 5, CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 1: Justin Langhammer had the lone goal for the host Cougars on Thursday. CCS hosts North College Hill on Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

FAIRFIELD 1, MIDDLETOWN 0: Lauren Marcum scored off a Kaitlyn Braunig assist Thursday as the host Indians won a weather-shortened Greater Miami Conference contest, which lasted one half. Tanner Ruberg had one save in goal for Fairfield, which is 7-3-2 overall and 4-3 in the GMC. The Middies are 5-6-2, 1-5-2, and will host Edgewood on Saturday. The Indians will be at home against Mason on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

BADIN COMPETES IN D-II SECTIONAL: The Rams ended their season Thursday in Division II sectional play at Mason and the Mercy HealthPlex. In singles, Mackenzie Keffalos beat Monroe’s Autumn Sierra-Holloway 6-0, 6-0, and East Clinton’s Emily Nunn 6-1, 6-2, before losing to top-seeded Kelsey Matthews of Indian Hill 6-0, 6-1. Nicole Baden defeated Wyoming’s Rachel Montgomery 6-0, 6-0, and Madeira’s Anna Frazer 6-1, 6-0, before losing to third-seeded Rachel Littman of Indian Hill 6-1, 6-2. Molly Maloney beat Tabby Tucker of Norwood 6-0, 6-0, before falling to second-seeded Holly Dahmus of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Sam Gonya and Miranda Lipps beat a Clinton-Massie team 6-0, 6-0 before losing to a Madeira tandem 6-4, 6-2. Also, Haley Petri and Rebecca Gonya defeated a Monroe unit 6-0, 6-1, before falling to the third seeds from CHCA 6-1, 6-0.
