WEST CHESTER TWP. — And then there were six.
Lakota West incoming senior linebacker Jordan Hicks has trimmed his list of colleges down to six, he said Thursday morning, June 25.
From the initial list of 16 schools, Hicks revealed that Texas, Ohio State, Florida, USC, Georgia and Alabama remain.
“It’s a combination of the feeling I get when I talk to the coaches,” Hicks said. “Those are the ones I feel most comfortable with.”
Hicks (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) is the No. 1-rated outside linebacker in the country in his class, according to Rivals.com, and the 16th prospect overall.
Hicks does not have any official visits lined up, but said he’d like to visit Texas, Florida and Ohio State for sure. The next step, he said, is to narrow the list down to three or four schools prior to the start of the season.
“It’s a process,” West coach Larry Cox said. “He feels good about the schools left on the list. Obviously at this point, somebody has to drop off because you’re only allowed five official visits. One more will drop off, if not more. Right now, we’ll focus on the schools at hand.”
Here’s what Hicks had to say about each school:
Texas: “I went down there last year, and I got a really good vibe from them. They welcomed me when I was down there.”
Ohio State: “I’m up there all the time — a lot more than any school. I have a good relationship with the whole staff. It’s a really nice place, and I like what’s going on there.”
Florida: “I talk to Coach (Urban) Meyer a lot. Me and him have a really good relationship going on, and I’m planning on going down and seeing him sometime this summer after a basketball tournament.”
USC: “It’s a different type of place, and I like that. It’s West Coast. They have the reputation that they’ll come in here and kick your (butt). Flat out, that’s how they feel. That mentality I like. I like what they have going on also.”
Georgia: “I’ve always really liked Georgia. I’ve talked to (linebackers) Coach (John) Jancek and (head) Coach (Mark) Richt. They’re really nice people. I went down there last year and liked the campus. It was nice.”
Alabama: “I’ve built up a really good relationship with (linebackers) Coach Sal (Sunseri). He’s a real good guy. I had a video conference with them and that went really well.”
