Unbeaten West
wins opener in Ky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Monty Boykins collected 16 points and eight rebounds Tuesday as the Lakota West High School boys basketball team defeated Simon Kenton (Ky.) 55-40 at Lexington Catholic High School.
It was the Firebirds’ first game in the Republic Bank Holiday Classic and boosted West’s record to 4-0.
Jackson Blue had 12 points and six boards for the Firebirds, who will face Louisville (Ky.) Trinity today at 8 p.m. Simon Kenton is 8-3.

Wilhelm, Hornsby lead Talawanda to victory
OXFORD — Seniors Kody Wilhelm and Sam Hornsby combined for 22 points off the bench Tuesday to lead host Talawanda to a 48-37 victory over Monroe in prep boys basketball action.
Wilhelm scored 12 and Hornsby 10 for Talawanda (2-4).
Monroe’s Chris Sloneker scored a game-high 17 points.
The Braves visit Hamilton on Friday night, while Monroe hosts Carlisle.

Lakota East wins opener in S.C.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Lakota East High School boys basketball team opened played in the Beach Ball Classic with a 61-38 win over Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Socastee on Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
Robbie Harpring scored 16 points and Ryan Leppert added 10 to lead East (2-3). The Thunderhawks advance to face the winner of Rye (N.Y.) and Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Socastee fell to 7-2.
