Lakota West uses treys to upend Mason 73-65

MASON — Junior forward Monty Boykins scored a game-high 25 points and Jackson Blue and Ali Barnes combined for 33 to lead Lakota West to a 73-65 upset of Mason on the road Friday.

Barnes, a junior guard, finished with 17, and Blue, a senior forward, scored a carer-high 16 to move the Firebirds (11-6 overall, 8-3 Greater Miami Conference) into a four-way tie for second in the league with Mason, Princeton and Fairfield, two games behind Middletown.

West had fewer rebounds, fewer assists and more turnovers than the Comets (14-3, 8-3 GMC), but the Firebirds scorched the nets from 3-point range, going 9-of-17. Boykins connected on four of his five long ones, and Barnes and Tyler Williams knocked down two each.

Northwest 57, Ross 55: The visiting Knights dealt the Rams’ hopes of winning a Fort Ancient Valley Conference West Division title a serious blow Friday night. Max Mischkulnig scored 17 to lead Ross, which fell to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the FAVC West, two games behind first-place Winton Woods with four to play.

Winton Woods 60, Talawanda 27: The visiting Warriors held the Braves to a season-low point total Friday night, sending the hosts to their fourth loss in the last five games. Colton Adams scored nine points to lead Talawanda (5-11, 3-7 FAVC West).

Clark Montesori 69, Cincinnati Christian 52: The Cougars missed a chance to move into a tie for first in the Miami Valley Conference Gray Division on Friday. CCS dropped to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in MVC Gray.

Harrison 40, Edgewood 33: Jake Tarvin scored 18 points and Shane Page scored a dozen more to lead Harrison (8-7, 5-5) to a Fort Ancient Valley Conference win over Edgewood (1-15, 1-9)

The Cougars’ Mason Back led all scorers with 19 points. Four other Edgewood players combined for 14 points.

Diving

Jones second: Hamilton High sophomore Khayman Jones placed second at the Greater Miami Conference diving meet Friday.

Jones scored a 244.80 to finish behind Mason’s Sean Sargent.
