HAMILTON — Hamilton High School football coach Jim Place said Miami University football coach Michael Haywood has offered scholarships to Big Blue junior wide receiver Kenny Lewis and junior wide receiver/quarterback Brian Cleckley.

Place said the whole team went to the RedHawks’ game against Northern Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 24, and prior to the game Haywood invited Lewis into his office and offered him a scholarship.

Cleckley, who was still recovering physically from the previous night’s 29-26 loss to Princeton, did not make the trip, but Haywood called him and offered a scholarship over the phone.

“It is great to see Miami being aggressive and offering local kids early,” Place said. “Coach Haywood said they are also interested in some of our other kids and are evaluating them now. They are making a commitment to the local kids first.”

Cleckley has carried 86 times for 314 yards and three touchdowns this season, and he has a team-high 21 catches for 216 yards with four TDs. He’s also completed 11-of-27 passes for 131 yards.

Lewis has 17 receptions for a team-high 233 yards with one touchdown and also has carried 13 times for 49 yards.

I wonder who is a conservative on here? You sicken all of us 'wow'.

How far will a scholarship go for two black kids playing football? I'm guessing up until their first arrest or domestic violence charge.

Good for them! I hope they take advantage of the offers. Miami University is an excellent college to attend.

Jim Place is taking heat for trying to make the kids fit his system instead of adjusting his system to fit his talent. This team isn't built to run the veer. Until he wakes up and makes some changes it is what it is

I don't understand why Jim Place is getting a lot of scrutiny. If you remember before Jim Place came to Hamilton he led CJ to a state championship and numerous playoff runs.
