HAMILTON — Of the more than 6,500 days Dan Bowling has spent in the Hamilton City School District, this is the only one named for the retiring teacher and coach.
By proclamation of the Civic Day Class of 2010 Office of the Mayor and City Council, today, Nov. 20, has been declared Dan Bowling Day.
“I’m very honored,” Bowling said Thursday after being presented the proclamation declaring today as his day. “It was a really nice ceremony and something I appreciated. It’s especially gratifying to not only have some success, but to be able to do it in your hometown.”
In addition to spending his entire teaching and coaching career in Hamilton, Bowling also attended city schools from kindergarten through high school.
As far as retiring, he said he definitely is retiring as a teacher and “in all probability” will be retiring after what will be his 28th season as baseball coach this spring.
Bowling has led Big Blue to two state championships, four final fours and 15 Greater Miami Conference titles while compiling a record of 639-198.
