HAMILTON — This time the Badin High School boys basketball team made sure the fourth quarter didn’t matter.
Coming off a head-scratching loss Friday in which they blew a 12-point lead, the Rams started fast Tuesday night against Dayton Christian and never let up.
Badin raced to a 13-point advantage after one quarter and led by as many as 24 in the fourth before settling for a 57-38 triumph at Mulcahey Gym.
“I felt like we were clearly the more talented team, so we talked about just doing what we do and not letting up for four quarters,” Badin coach Nick Argentati said. “We knew their two biggest guys were 6-2, so we were able to get the ball inside.”
Senior Morgan Reynolds scored a game-high 13 points, and senior Jonathan Kirsch added a career-high 11 to help the Rams improve to 7-3 and wash away the bad taste Friday night left in their mouths.
“We definitely wanted to come out and prove ourselves tonight,” Kirsch said. “We were really disappointed after Friday night, so it was nice to just have two practices before getting a chance to come back right away.”
Dayton Christian came into the game having won four of its last five, but the Warriors (5-3) allowed Badin to score on its final eight possessions of the first quarter to build a 19-6 lead. By halftime it was 31-13.
Instead of coasting, the Rams upped the margin as much as 54-30 midway through the fourth quarter.
“We just wanted to play the whole game through and make it a complete game,” said Reynolds, who also had a team-high seven rebounds to help Badin to a 33-26 edge on the boards.
“I wouldn’t say it was the most complete game we’ve played this year,” Reynolds continued. “But it was up there.”
Senior Joe Marot added nine points and tied his career high with six rebounds, while seniors Heath Stricker and Alex Wendel each scored eight.
Stricker and seniors Jimmy Kes and Max Adams each had four assists while combining to commit just three turnovers.
Senior Mark Lieberman led Dayton Christian with 12 points.
Badin returns to action Friday night at home against Chaminade Julienne. That kicks off a rough three-game stretch that will be followed by road trips to state-ranked Summit Country Day on Tuesday and Roger Bacon on Jan. 20.
