HAMILTON — The Badin High School girls basketball team started fast Wednesday night against the state’s top-ranked Division II team.
But Dayton Carroll quickly recovered on its way to a 51-22 triumph over the Rams at Mulcahey Gym.
The Rams, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead, led 7-6 late in the first quarter before the Patriots used a 21-0 run to take control.
Carroll (15-0, 7-0 Girls Greater Cincinnati League) was led by Susie Wollenhaupt (18 points) and Ciara Poppa (16).
Abby Fritsch scored 11 points to lead Badin (10-4, 4-3). The Rams had their six-game winning streak snapped.
Hamilton 67, Middletown 42: A 25-7 surge in the second quarter allowed the visiting Big Blue to take control against their Greater Miami Conference rivals.
Jillian Spurlock led Hamilton (10-5, 4-5 GMC) with 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Desiree Ash added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Hannah Keene also notched a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Middletown (5-11, 1-9) was led by Vada Edwards, who had 19 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
Winton Woods 58, Talawanda 48: The host Warriors knocked off the Braves in the showdown for the top spot in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference West Division.
Winton Woods (14-1, 9-1 FAVC West) was led by Chanel Stokes’ 21 points.
Ana Richter poured in a game-high 25 points for Talawanda (11-5, 8-2).
