Badin grad Jett finishes strong

Senior first baseman Brian Jett completed his Indiana State University baseball career with a bang last week in Wichita, Kan.

The Badin High School graduate went 4-for-10 in three games and totaled three home runs, five runs and five RBIs in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament, earning a spot on the all-tourney team.

Jett’s three homers upped his season total to 11, a career high. In 50 games for the Sycamores this year, he hit .270 with 36 hits, 27 runs and a career-best 43 RBIs.

Softball

Three Lakota West High School graduates were significant contributors to Ohio State’s success this season.

Junior pitcher Lindsay Bodeker, junior outfielder Leah Ledford and sophomore catcher-third baseman Rachael Shepherd helped the Buckeyes post a 47-11 record and qualify for NCAA Super Regional play, where they were swept in two games by host Georgia (6-4 and 7-6).

Bodeker was 16-5 with a 2.00 ERA in the circle this year, notching 164 strikeouts in 136 1/3 innings. Shepherd hit .252 with four home runs and 18 RBIs, while Ledford hit .245 with four homers and 21 RBIs.

• Evansville junior pitcher Jennifer McKee (Hamilton) has been named an honorable-mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete.

McKee holds a 3.70 grade point average in visual communications. She was 7-16 with a 3.01 ERA this season for the Purple Aces (14-34).

Women’s golf

Sophomore Lauren Ellerman (Lakota West) was the top performer for Evansville last month at the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in Panora, Iowa.

Ellerman tied for 28th place with a 78-75-88—241 total as the Purple Aces finished 10th in the team standings, 56 strokes behind champion Illinois State.
