Former HHS standout Hatcher starting at Duke

Hamilton High School product Charlie Hatcher is the starting nose guard this season for Duke University’s football team.

Hatcher, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound redshirt sophomore, has four solo tackles and four assists for the Blue Devils. He has two tackles for loss and one blocked kick.

Duke is 1-2 with a 35-19 victory over Army. The Blue Devils, who lost to Richmond (24-16) and 22nd-ranked Kansas (44-16), are at home against North Carolina Central on Saturday night, Sept. 26.

Men’s golf

Otterbein captured the 11-team Baldwin-Wallace Invitational on Sept. 20-21, and junior Alex Stansell (Fairfield) was the Cardinals’ No. 2 man.

Stansell shot a 10-over-par 75-79—154, leaving him in a tie for eighth place.

• Sophomore Dean Kruschinski (Badin) finished in a 12th-place tie individually last weekend, helping Mount St. Joseph tie for third in the seven-team Anderson (Ind.) Fall Invitational.

Kruschinski shot 13-over-par 79-78—157, equaling Nick Barlow for team-best honors. Freshman Chad Beatty (Badin) tied for 32nd at 81-84—165.

Women’s golf

Evansville sophomore Lauren Ellerman (Lakota West) tied for 10th place in the individual standings Sept. 14-15 at the Murray State Invitational.

Ellerman shot a 13-over-par 229 (76-78-75) for the Purple Aces, who placed sixth among nine teams.

Evansville will compete in the Cincinnati Invitational on Sept. 28-29.

Volleyball

Senior outside hitter Meg Donnelly (Lakota East) is among the top players for Union (Ky.), which is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Donnelly leads the Bulldogs with 67 kills and ranks second in digs with 101.
