After multiple attempts to play each other in the regular season failed, Cincinnati Christian and New Miami’s paths will finally cross in the Division IV sectional semifinals.

After four regular season rain outs, the Cougars and Vikings will face each other at 5 p.m. today,
May 14, at Waterworks Park in Fairfield.

The No. 8 seeded Vikings advanced to today’s game with a
10-7 win over No. 9 Fayetteville on May 12.

“They have some kids that have been working hard and made some real improvements,” Cincinnati Christian coach Bill Lanphier said.

“Their new coach seems to be getting some good energy from them and that’s a credit to him. They have a nice team that’s headed in the right direction.”

Cincinnati Christian, which finished the regular season at
13-5 overall and 9-3 in the Miami Valley Conference Scarlet Division, received the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the sectional tournament.

The Cougars enter the tournament having won seven of their last eight games.

“They need to go out there and be fundamentally sound, catch the balls that are thrown to them, get timely hits and run the bases well,” Lanphier said. “Whatever team does that deserves to win.”

Josh Lanphier has served as the Cougars offensive leader this season, batting .489 and leading the team in hits (22) and runs batted in (22). The Cougars finished the regular season with eight players batting over .300.

On the mound, Micah Parker has led the way for the Cougars, going
4-2 with a 2.05 earned run average over a team leading 41 innings of work.

The winner of today’s game will face the winner of Summit Country Day and Lockland in the sectional finals 5 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn.
