Ahead of its regular-season finale against rival Alter High School, the Chaminade Julienne boys basketball team (13-6) played host to Cincinnati powerhouse Moeller (17-2) on Tuesday night.

It was a classic Greater Cincinnati League game — defensive and tight throughout. The Eagles ultimately came up short, 48-47, to the Crusaders, who are ranked No. 6 in the state in Division I.

CJ senior John Staley led the upset-minded Eagles with 26 points. He did most of his damage in the paint, using his size and athleticism to hit 10 field goals. The rest of the team, however, had just seven field goals as their four-game win streak came to a halt.

Madison 53, Milton-Union 52: With a new school building and gym in the works, the Bulldogs (5-14) wanted to send out their current building with a win against Madison (9-10).

Milton-Union rallied to tie the game after three quarters, but couldn’t keep pace with the Mohawks, though they had opportunities to tie or win in the final minutes.

Madison junior Joey Adleta led all scorers with 28 points.

Bulldogs senior Josh Wheeler, who was celebrating his final home game along with the last game at that facility, tied Caleb Poland with a team-high 16 points.

Tri-Village 72, Lehman Catholic 66: Tri-Village junior Kyle Pipenger nearly single-handedly willed the Patriots (16-3) to a comeback win over Lehman Catholic (10-9), scoring 17 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter.

Troy Christian 66, Miami Valley 35: Four players scored in double figures as the Eagles cruised to their 10th Metro Buckeye Conference win. Troy Christian earned at least a share of the league title, and can claim it with another win Friday.
